Rhett Braniff is a native of Houston where he graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He attended the University of Texas and received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law. Rhett began his career as a prosecutor in Cameron County, Texas as a misdemeanor prosecutor. He rose the ranks in that office, ultimately becoming a felony trial court chief. He was responsible for prosecuting criminal cases of all levels, from misdemeanors to first degree felonies. He was also responsible for the intake of all child abuse case including child sexual abuse and infant death cases. Rhett returned to Austin in 2005 to assume a position as a prosecutor with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. He was a felony prosecutor assigned to the 390th District Court. In 2007 Rhett entered private practice and has focused almost entirely on criminal defense since then. He has litigated a variety of cases, and received a jury acquittal on a murder case. His trial experience is extensive, and he has helped clients charged with just about every offense on the books. Rhett was also a licensed insurance agent, and has extensive knowledge of the insurance industry. He is uniquely situated to advise clients on the intersection of criminal law and professional licensing issues. Rhett prides himself on educating and comforting while vigorously defending his clients.
